BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT! GFWMG goes official BO - backing!

So I've always been rooting for Obama, ever since his name cropped up on the American political scene. I've listened to a lot of his stuff and it surprises me as to why I didn't write anything about him or his campaign earlier. Either way, I was inspired to write this post after watching Barack Obama's speech at Denver, Colorado, today where he positively destroyed the Republican campaign and the $700bn bailout plan that they backed.

My brother was very skeptical (surprise surprise) about Obama's chances at winning the election this year. He was all, 'oh they wouldn't let him on, republican corporate backing, race etc etc' but even HE said it tonight. HE said that McCain just lost (yes. LOST) the elections. Obama has always been known to have a silver tongue but today at Colorado he positively sealed his campaign.

The Lower House rejected the $700bn bailout plan 228-205, resulting in urgent warnings from President Bush (and congressional leaders) that the economy could cannonball into recession. Well, I don't blame him he did f*** up the economy. Only 5 weeks now till election day and the Republicans had about two thirds of their party rejecting the very bill that they backed. The Bush Administration piled on the pleas to the lawmakers to let it pass, but still, no cigar. No one is going to take such a huge risk to the economy and with only 5 weeks till election day.

The man on the street says, 'why should our money be given to the big corporations?' McCain has promised, I believe, around $700,000 worth of tax cuts to CEOs of Fortune 500 companies and, in his words, 'not a dime of relief for the average American. So why should the American people suffer?'

Damn. BO is gonna be a bad-ass President. Let's just hope that the American people make the RIGHT choice this time around. Third time's a charm I says!

_______

Come what may, this post is to announce that GFWMG is now OFFICIALLY (from my end) a blog supporting Obama-Biden '08. While I don't have their official backing, they have mine. I'll do whatever I can to help their campaign. Albeit I'm halfway across the world, but hey you never know!

I have 2 widgets on the sidebar that should keep us all updated on a decently-regular basis. They're official widgets from Obama for America so I'm guessing they've got stuff. Henceforth, I will be posting any new developements of and about BO's campaign on this here blog.

The Weekly Stupids V1P4 - "Hi 911? Yes there's someone trying to barge into the house that I'm occupying illegally.."

When you call the cops, make sure that YOU'RE not the one that's doing something illegal. Or possessing illegal contraband..

Police arrest squatter who called them for help

LINCOLN, Neb. - Lincoln police reported the rare occurrence of arresting a man who called them for help. Officials said a 25-year-old man called police Wednesday night to say someone was trying to break into his apartment.

When police arrived, they discovered it was the apartment manager trying to get into the apartment, which was supposed to be vacant.

Police said someone had illegally changed the locks on the apartment, and the man arrested was illegally occupying it.

Police also found more than three pounds of marijuana, equipment used to grow marijuana and nearly $3,500 in cash in the apartment. [Malizomg's edit] Like that wasn't reason enough to arrest him [end Malizomg's edit]

About 8 days now..

Ramadan's almost done. Just another 8 or so days left and then it's Eid. Whee!

University is really really pathetic. Whoop de frickin doo.

The folks and brother traveled to Abu Dhabi today, so was nice and quiet at home. Got to catch up on sleep and all that. Played some more DMC4.

I need to drink more water.

I want to read Khalid Hosseini's The Kite Runner again. I love that book. You know what I realize? When you read a 'thinner' book than one of the paperback bestsellers, you feel more like an elitist than you do with one of the paperbacks. I mean everyone reads John Grisham or Robert Ludlum ( <3 style="font-style: italic;">Iftar
parties have gotten fewer or the Eid visits have reduced. Or maybe it's just not as magical as it used to be when I was a kid. I dunno, does anyone else feel that way too? I just feel like our festivals and shit were a whole lot more festival-esque when I was younger, or at least, a few years ago. Now it's just *frrrrt*...

Argh. I want GOW2 :(

Thursday, September 18, 2008

The day mentioned in the title was one very eventful days. It's one of those days where you see so many different things, and each one of them has an effect on you.

Event 1: Mrs. Fokiya's Movie.

Mrs. Fokiya is a newly appointed Professor at my University. She'd been a temp with us for 2 years and only this year she was offered a full time post, which she took. So it turns out Mrs. Fokiya makes movies on the side and from what we were told she's made over 20 short documentaries. Most of them are about humanitarian issues and the like.

So, on titular date, the faculty decided to show a screening of one of her movies. This movie was about widows and mainly orphans in Kashmir. It was a good depiction of the troubles and worries that orphans and widows in Kashmire face in their day to day lives. It was one of those things where, it wasn't like you didn't already know about it, you just had never seen it. In my time working with the UNERU and RAD, I've organized a lot of supplies for these people so this movie had a very personal impact for me. 18 year old boys taking care of entire families. 6 year olds with ambitions to be a doctor or a teacher so he can heal or teach other orphans. A 13 year old girl, when interviewed, showed the maturity that most adults of our generation lack.

What got to me though, was when after the movie was screened I heard a lot of my peers commenting on how ,'boring' that was and how, 'pointless' it was that they wasted their precious time sitting there and watching that movie about some kids who struggle with their lives.

Is my generation really that shallow? Are our stomachs and our looks all we ever care about? How could we possibly complain about education, family, friends or the hardships that WE face, while these children face unsurmountable challenges without battering an eyelid.

We're screwed.

Event 2 - Almost roadkill

I was invited to the Games Alliance Middle East Show 2008 (GAMES 2008) to try out new game titles. Now, while that I will speak about as well, this part is about what happened on the way to the hotel.

It was being held at the Grand Hyatt and I was in Satwa. A friend was to pick me up and since he didn't know where I would be exactly, he waited at the big Satwa Mosque, which was a 5 minute walk from where I was. I made my way there and just as I saw his car from across the street, a taxi pulled up behind him and stopped. Two women got out, and I could see some children in the car. Three, if I remember correctly, and amongst them was a little boy roughly about 2 years old.

The moment this little guy hit the pavement he bolted for the main road that I was about to cross. He caught his mother by surprise and made a dash for the road. Why? Dunno. He's a kid. Either way, the kid jumped onto the road and freezed. An RTA bus saw the child and hit the brakes, but it wouldn't have stopped in time.

At that point, I managed to bolt down the road, scoop the child and reach the other side. The bus drove past soon after. I figured that the driver saw me running across to pick the child up and so wasn't worried. The mother was screaming hysterically throughout the entire thing. Her sister was yelling at her, as was the cabbie. My friend was standing there looking at me with his mouth open. I don't know if I saved the child's life, but Alhamdulillah we didn't have to find out.

The interesting thing is that I was in Satwa for an Iftar party at my aunt's place. She did not want me to go, and it took me 45 minutes to convince her to let me go. Even then she was hesitant and my father wasn't particularly happy that I was skipping out on a family event. Had she not delayed me, or was I not permitted to go, would things have happened differently?

Funny how things work out.

Event 3 - Games Alliance Middle East Show 2008 (GAMES 2008)

Microsoft, Pluto Games, Red Entertainment and Sony's Gulf Playstation Division invited me to attend GAMES 2008, where I was able to try out never-seen before titles. Some of these titles were still a few months out but were available for testing and trials at this exhibition.

Long story short:

I TRIED GEARS OF WAR 2! AAAAAHH!!!!

It was BEAUTIFUL. Every bit as orgasmic as I had imagined. The cool thing was that it was still a development module and there were bugs and I FOUND ONE. When you revved up the Lancer's chainsaw, while walking towards an enemy if you grazed past a wall or a vehicle or anything, the player would discharge onto it, so you' waste time, the element of surprise and would have to rev up all over again. But the gameplay was beautiful. The characters were crisper and new movements and new abilities just make this already awesome game just that much better.

Other titles to watch out for:

Resident Evil 5 (Simply the BEST graphics I have ever seen in ANY game. EVER.)
Brothers in Arms: Highway to Hell
Fable 2
Quantum of Solace
Star Wars: Force Unleashed (I'm not so sure about this one)
Legendary
Killzone 2
Resistance 2
Call of Duty: World At War

What a day!

Cheers!

The Weekly Stupids V1P3 - James Bond he's not..

Stuck 'agent' tells cops of
secret, 'bomb' mission.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office provided this booking mugshot Wednesday, Sept. AP – The Knox County Sheriff's Office provided this booking mugshot Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008 of Richard Anthony …

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – It wasn't the preferred way to enter the Knoxville Museum of Art, but Richard Anthony Smith told police he was on a mission. The 25-year-old Knoxville man called 911 from his cell phone before dawn Wednesday saying he was trapped in an air conditioning duct leading from the museum roof, Knoxville police spokesman Darrell DeBusk said.

Police and firefighters reached the roof, found a rope and cable and followed them to a vent shaft. Peering inside, they spotted Smith about 45 feet down.

"Mission failed," he told them.

Hoisted up and read his rights, Smith told police he was a "special agent from the United States Illuminati, badge number 0931" and had rappelled onto the museum from a helicopter, a police report said.

He said he was following orders to "defuse and confiscate" a Soviet-made nuclear warhead, specifically a "MERV6SS-22AN" warhead, according to the report. The bomb supposedly was hidden in a blue, plastic cow sculpture in the museum basement, he said.

However, Smith told officers his "agency" called while he was in air-vent limbo to say it made a mistake and the bomb might be in a Memphis museum instead.

Police charged Smith with aggravated robbery. He was being held on $2,000 bond at the Knox County Jail. Authorities said he did not have a lawyer.

"Fortunately he was able to reach his cell phone," DeBusk said, "or he may not have been found for quite some time."

Lol. At least he was being original. Although I liked the, "Illuminati, badge no. 0931". Classy touch.

I have no idea what to call this.

What you're now reading is probably the fifth or sixth time that I've erased what I wrote to try and put down something that would make more sense as an introduction as to what I'm about to say. Same thing applied to the title of this post as I put in more than five or six different titles, but none of them suited me just. I guess I'll just cut to the chase and get on with this article.

There are some misconceptions in this world. Correction: There are a lot. But the ones that I'm about to talk about occur a lot more commonly than most others.

Q1) Is black a colour?

When you go to the stationery store, or a car dealership or a cell phone store or any place where you can buy things of different colours, one of the most common colours available is black. It's the most popular because it looks sleek and cool and whatnot.

But is black really a colour?

Let's see. If you take the complete spectrum you will have a giant white light. When VIBGYOR (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red) combine you get a dazzling white colour. Now, start taking the colours out one by one, anyway you want. What you'll notice is, that as you continue doing so, the light that you see get's darker and darker with every progessing colour removal. Finally, when you're removed the final colour, all you have is black.

So is black a colour? To get black, we removed all other colours. So black, is not a colour, rather it is the absence of any colour.

Q2) Is cold the exact opposite of heat?

No. It's not. Here's why. Let's assume that cold was the exact opposite of heat. That means for every degree that get's higher, you should be able to go a degree lower. But see you can't. This is why:

It is not physically possible to go beyond 0 degrees Kelvin, or, Absoulte Zero. But, heat can never be limited. It can go higher and hotter, with no theoretical limit. So cold, is not the exact opposite of heat. Rather, cold is the word we use to describe the absence of heat. Heat can only be absent until 0 degrees Kelvin, after which it cannot get any cooler.

Unlike black and white which are pure opposites. Take a black light and a white one. Remove one of the lights from the white light and add that colour to the black one. There will be an equal amount of change on both sides. Do this 7 times and the black light become white, and vice versa. However with temperature, it's not the same.

Let's assume we have 2 solids at 0 degrees Celcius each. (Note: Absolute Zero = -273 degrees Celcius)

One solid we heat, and the other we cool. For each corresponding degree heat the first solid, we cool the other one. Once we've done this 273 times, the respective temperatures will be 273 and - 273 degrees Celcius. Beyond this, the temperature of only the solid being heated can be increased. The other one's temperature can not be reduced any further.

Hence, cold is not the exact opposite of heat, it is merely a term used to descride the degree of lack of heat.

I thus complete one of the worst things I've ever written. I dunno why I wrote this. I dunno why I'm still posting it. Ew. Ew. Ew. I'm gonna go bury my head in sand now.

Bye.

The Weekly Stupids V1P2 - Let THEM explain..

Ok, so considering that I'm not a citizen of the USA, it could be said that I have no right to do what I do here in these posts. You know, who am I to defile the chastity of this (once?) great nation.

So here is another video off the tube. I saw it a while ago and it was actually quite refreshing to see a Yank stand up and tell the whole world JUST how stupid his brethren are. You GO dude!

Hai gaiz!!1!

Man, it has been one hell of a start to the new academic year. A 'bang up' job if I do say so myself. Gladly, however, stuff has slowed down and things ought to return to, 'normal' (if you could ever call it that) soon enough, me guesses.

Either way, more changes to your favorite blog soon. I'm thinking of moving the scroll text from the sidebar to just under the title and use it to highlight.. something. Not quite so sure what yet. But when I know, you'll know, you know?

This Thursday I get to go back to AMG and sign our contracts to work for ShoofTV. Finally a paid job. Money. Riches. Women. Cars. Luxuries. Gourmet Food. Credit. Little boys. The world is my oyster.

Every time I log on I still feel like this blog needs a little more pizzazz before it's finally up to my liking. Then I sometimes realize that maybe I should just finally sit down and post one of the articles like I promised I would. But I'm actually quite hesitant. I recently learned that I screwed up this article I wrote sometime in the last academic year and it turned out worse than dog doo. So I need to figure out my writing style all over again. I guess I can't be as good as a student who's learning how to write an article the correct way, rather than the instinctive way.

Oh well, can't beat 'em all. But sure as hell can try!

10,000 bottles of beer on the wall..

Well it's 6:31am sharp and I am waiting for my bus to come pick me up. I wish I could take the laptop to University on a more regular basis, it would make for very interesting updates.

I'm trying to get the nice HOD of the Media Department to allow me to teach the first (and/or second) year students their Arabic lessons. For the first years, it's now become a credited course, so he may not want to as much but if he does then, hey, you can call me Professor Mali. Or Professor Moe. Or just Professor.

There are still some articles that I want to post but haven't found the time to complete yet. One of them is a article (tirade?) about former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's resignation in the face of impeding impeachment. I also want to discuss possible ideas for this year's Ibda'a awards. I'll probably be entering in the Journalism category so I need a good strong article to send in. Problem, however, is that I'm really not that sure about what to write about. And since my writing skills change depending on my passion/interest for the subject, I need to find something (or you to find something) that piques my curiousity.

I noticed one thing the other day. I was on a vox pop for City 7 news and I saw me talking to... well.. a mic. And I noticed that I was doing the one thing that I used to make good fun of a friend for doing. Moving my hands in a repetitive motion while I talk. Now, I don't normally do that *waves* but I guess because I was being taped and recorded *slides* it might have triggered a involuntary reaction in the left side of my brain *flips* to cause my right hand *flips again* to make said movements. How embarrassing.

For some reason, my iPod cable (or iPod) is not working. As far as I know the iPod worked fine since I last uploaded songs onto it, but I was using my old cable at that point. Now that I lost that one I figured I might as well try the new one and when I did the iPod refused to show any signs of... anything. It didn't charge, neither was it picked up by the computer. So I'm crossing fingers and hoping it's the cable that's faulty. Because the iPod works fine and if it DOES have that little glitch that would totally suck and I'd have to get it repaired and risk losing my playlists. I worked very hard on my playlists and would not want that. Uh uh. No way.

It's now time for me to skidaddle out of here. The bus should be here shortly and it's actually nice out at this time of the day, so I wouldn't mind the wait. Until next time!

Cheers!

The Weekly Stupids V1P1 - All Beauty No Brains

Welcome to the first edition of, 'The Weekly Stupids,' an online dedication to the stupidest people that I can find in the only superpower of the 21st Century.

For my first post I would like to introduce none other than Lauren Caitlin Upton. A Miss Teen USA 2007 contestant (She came fourth eventually) from South Carolina, was asked a seemingly simple question.

Pay close attention to her not-so-simple answer:

Delivered as promised!

ZOMG! Name change!

As of 5 minutes ago the blog formerly known as, "Changing Direction Without My GPS," (CDWMG) has now become:

Gone Fishing, Without My GPS!

(Or just GFWMG for short)

The url however, remains the same. I wish I had a better URL though.. Oh well.

Yay!

Roomieroom

So my visiting brother finally left a couple of nights ago. This saw my glorious return to my room. However this moment of peace and tranquility will be extremely short lived as in a few days I shall be having a visiting aunt and uncle over and so will see my posterior lobbed back onto the couch in the living room. Recently, UK blogger TJ was witness to this treatment and I've always wondered what he thought about our couch-bed.

A month or so ago, I started a little project where I would, on a blog, make a showcase of the falling average in American IQ levels. For reasons yet unbeknown to me I shut it down. Probably because no one ever visited. THEREFORE, my genius brain has come up with this mind-b(l)oggling plan to have a weekly article called... *drum roll* The Weekly Stupids, which will publish every Friday. Here I will showcase all that I did on that blog. And so this way at least it will have some readership and at the same time my blog will get more hits. Joy!

I've also realized that I never make use of the 'labels' feature. I really should, it would make my blog a little more accessible. Henceforth, all posts will have labels. Yay! Big resolution. Maybe I'll also have a limited number of labels making everything more... categorized?

At this point I spent a good 45 minutes labeling ALL of my past posts. I am now late for a task that I was supposed to have started at 3 o clock. It is currently 3:36pm and now I've gotta make a run for it. But that can wait. First I finish post!

Lastly, University has reopened and now I am in my Junior year. Just this year and one more left after which I can wash my hands clean off Manipal University (as it is now known). The flip side to going to such a terrible university is how well I am doing for myself otherwise. I'm doing well academically, I have a job in the Media industry with one of the biggest local media giants, working to develop one of their premier websites. I also am a property agent with DAMAC properties, one of the biggest Master Developers in the UAE. I'm also just really really cool.

Whooo!

I ate us.

After seemingly what could be called a hiatus I have yet again made my glorious return to the local blogging scene. Joy!

Ah yes, a new academic year, a new face for CDWMG. Albeit it's not different from other blogs *coughjoellauzmacough* but it's mine and I like it. Besides I have new widgets. *dances* So, I have once again reclaimed my ticket as a UAE blogger. This blog has been redesigned and launched with renewed vigor and all that. Or at least that's what it'll be like until my meds wear off.

Anywhoo changes there are a many! First off, if you've registered to my blog via my old detection unit (ChangeDetection.com) please re-register using Feedburner on the left. It's way cooler and actually works. Unlike my old widget which totally sucked. Also I have the dancing banana of PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME fame. Moment I saw it I knew it had absolutely no benefit but..

I wants it.. I needs it.. I must have the precious...

Either way I have that there now and some part of my obscure childhood is now put to rest.

Other than that I have not much to offer as of right now. I really like my new news widget. It's way cool so have a go through.

MORE UPDATES AS EVENTS WARRANT!

Cheers!
